Event : Sundar Gopalan

Time : 6.30 p.m.
Venue : Birla Mandir
Details :

Sundar Gopalan means ‘Beautiful Lord Krishna’. In this mesmerising performance, the dancers describe the beauty of the young Krishna with his flute, and the influence he had on his gopiyaan – the group of unconditionally devoted cow-herding girls depicted in the stories of Bhagavata Purana and and their sakhiyaan (female friends).

Krishna stands leaning against a tree, surrounded by cows and beautiful women, and the gopiyaan try to attract his attention. His music makes them feel restless – they forget themselves and leave their houses in search of the sound of the flute. They dance and float until they forget the material world, and dissolve into the universe.

The dance recital is choreographed by Rekha Thakar of Jaipur will be accompanied by sitarist Hari Har Sharan Bhatt and party.
