An enchanting evening of devotional compositions by India’s most celebrated poet saints – Mirabai, Saint Kabir, Guru Nanak and Brahma Naidji – Hema Upasani’s interpretations of various ragas will send listeners into a trance. The programme includes various ragas, including Raga Aheer Bhairav, Raga Bairagi, Raga Puriya Dhanashree and Raga Bhatiyar Aasa.

The Mirabhai devotional songs invoke the folk culture of Rajasthan.

An exciting and varied evening showcasing the musical riches of Rajasthan, including:

Dharohar – Members of the UK/ Rajasthan Collaboration ‘Dharohar’  will perform a sensational sample of their work. (They also perform at the JKK at 7pm on 20th January).

Badri Narayan and Party – Six musicians and followers of the folk deities Tejaji and Diggipuri from Swami ka Baas village in the Tonk region of Rajasthan will play an energetic set while the dancers sway and spin.Though they are agriculturalists (jaat caste) by profession, they spend hours each day singing and playing their instruments in the fields while their cattle graze. They have made music together in this way since their childhood.

The Male Dancers – Suresh Rao is from Kuner village in Tonk district of Rajasthan. He comes from a traditional artistic family. He started dancing at the age of fourteen and has enthralled audiences throughout India with his grace and strength.
Ashok Bahadia is also from Tonk. Himmat Singh spent his childhood surrounded by the different forms of folk dance. He took female roles in the traditional village Kuchamani Khyal performances, and knows bhawai dance, kalbelia and ghoomar – all popular and well known folk dances of Rajasthan.
Babu Lal Bhopa and PartyRaju and Rakesh Kumari Bhopi are young performers from the Rajaldesar District of Churu. They have sung and danced in their father, Babu Lal, group since an early age. Members of JVF saw the pair performing with their family at the Sikrali Festival 2009 where they kept an audience of 10,000 spellbound and shouting for more. JHIF is delighted that they are bringing a taste of their incredible vitality and energy to the city of Jaipur.
Bhanwri Devi and Party – Bhanwari Devi, bhopi, and folk singer extraordinaire performs a recital of rare songs from the varied folk and traditional styles of Rajasthan and other states

Deepak Nritya – Rajesh Sharma and Party from Mathura Town will present an enchanting traditional dance with candles.
