Inside OUT, Outside IN, an Exhibition and Installation of new works of Art, Produced by Jaipur Virasat Foundation and curated by Dr. Alka Pande
JVF embarks on a journey of foregrounding Rajasthan as never before, with ‘Inside OUT, Outside IN’ - a celebration of the brightest and the best that is Jaipur.
Jaipur: a place where the contemporary and the traditional share a cordial and lasting relationship, located within a global/local crosscurrent of talent and recognition – where art and culture meet to create a dynamic energy that inspires and nourishes creativity and commerce – and where the confluence of the outside and inside reveals a unique core that is the essence of contemporary Jaipur.
The exhibition offers itself as a signpost for the times to come, with Jaipur as the protagonist... a celebration of nourishment and acceptance. Artists and crafts persons from within Rajasthan and from outside have been commissioned to create new work to combine the ideals of contemporary creative arts, urban regeneration and the rejuvenation of artisan & crafts communities.
JVF will produce a special catalogue for the Exhibition. It will also exhibit the works at the India Habitat Centre Gallery in New Delhi in April.

Jaipur has been famous for being one of the earliest planned cities in the world. The founder, Sawai Jai Singh II, the architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya and Prime Minister Raja Aya Mal Khatri all worked together to build this unique city.
The main attractions of Jaipur include its unique architectural style, the extent of uniformity in the façade of the buildings in the main markets and the methods adopted to break this monotony.
Each important haveli has elaborately designed latticed windows with the most amazing painted entrances. Community courtyards/chowks also had wells, temples where people could gather for daily rituals or social functions. The clever system of alternate broad and narrow lanes provided enough air and light to every house yet kept the summer heat out. Outside these small mohallas and located at the intersection of the main roads in the heart of the city were the three open squats or chaupars.
The heritage walk starts at the Albert hall Museum and goes through the Film colony, Thatheron Ka Rasta, Nataniyon Ka Rasta and various temples and museums on the way along with watching the making of the traditional Lac Bangles.
While modernization has brought about many changes the basic layout and much of traditional plan remains unchanged. A walk through the walled city is the best possible way to observe our rich heritage and take a closer look at the city’s architecture, its art and its culture and traditions.
